Community Cat Program

Every year, thousands of kittens are born on the streets of Los Angeles, where they face hunger, disease, injury, and countless other dangers. The most effective way to end this cycle is through Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR).

Kitten Rescue’s Community Cat Program addresses the root cause of cat overpopulation by helping community members humanely trap, sterilize, vaccinate, and return healthy feral cats to their outdoor homes. Through this program, we help prevent countless unwanted litters while improving the health and well-being of community cats.

If you find stray or feral cats in your neighborhood, we’re here to help. We provide humane trap loans, teach you how to safely trap cats, and guide you through every step of the TNR process. Working with our veterinary partners, community cats receive:

  • Spay or neuter surgery
  • Microchip
  • Rabies vaccination
  • FVRCP vaccination
  • Flea treatment
  • Any additional medical care needed at the time of surgery

The City of Los Angeles also provides free spay/neuter vouchers for community cats through the Citywide Cat Program. If you live within the City of Los Angeles, you may qualify for a voucher to help cover the cost of surgery. You can apply for vouchers here.

Each year, Kitten Rescue helps approximately 1,500 community cats and kittens through our Community Cat Program. Every cat sterilized means fewer kittens born into homelessness, less suffering on the streets, and healthier communities for both cats and people.
