Cats on Pawtrol Working Cat Program

Not every cat is suited for indoor life—but every cat deserves a chance to live.

Launched in 2017 in memory of FixNation Co-Founder Mark Dodge, Kitten Rescue’s Cats on Pawtrol Working Cat Program gives feral and under-socialized cats facing euthanasia in Los Angeles city shelters a lifesaving second chance. Because these cats are not suitable as companion animals, they are not available for adoption to the public and have few options for leaving the shelter alive.

Instead, they become working cats, providing safe, natural, and chemical-free rodent control at barns, breweries, warehouses, businesses, private homes, ranches, and other properties throughout Southern California.

Since the program began, Kitten Rescue has rescued hundreds of feral cats from local shelters and placed them in environments where they can thrive while providing an invaluable service to their caretakers.

Our dedicated volunteers work closely with shelter staff to identify cats that are good candidates for the program. We carefully screen each placement to ensure caretakers are committed to providing food, fresh water, shelter, and ongoing care. To help each cat successfully transition to its new home, Kitten Rescue provides acclimation enclosures, assists with setup, and offers guidance throughout the four-week acclimation period before the cats are released to patrol their new territory.
