Hi there, I’m Lola. I enjoy playing with string, hiding under the blankets, looking out the window, and sitting on laps. I’m a medium sized tuxedo (about 8 pounds) mostly black with a white stripe on my nose and white paws. I really love food and have learned some tricks, because I am smart and very food motivated. I have a very expressive face and every once in a while I have quite a lot to say — in general I have strong opinions that I’m not afraid to share! I don’t mind being alone, but I really like being with people. I like being spoiled and comfortable inside.
Back in August life was tough. I was living at the shelter. I thought my luck had changed when I was adopted. That same day, the person who adopted me tied a rope around my neck and carried me around in a closed bag. She took me out in a shop and wanted me to walk around like a dog. I was terrified. She put me back in the bag and left me there in the shop.
Eventually I found my way to Kitten Rescue where my foster family has been trying to help me recover from my ordeal. I love to be petedt, snuggle on your lap while you work, or your chest while you sleep, but often I get scared and will hiss or swat if startled. I cannot be picked up or restrained in any way. I live with a gentle toddler who I let touch me. Despite how loud and erratic she is, I have never scratched her. There are two big cats who also live in my foster house. Their smell upsets me even though we have gotten to know each other through a gate. I am curious about them and sometime call to them or try to play with them under the door or talk to them through the gate, but if they walk towards me I get very upset.
I need a house with experienced cat humans who can be patient with me and allow me to learn to trust again. I wouldn’t mind living with another cat or kitten who was very laid back and would give me my space and time to come to them, but I think I would prefer to be alone. Although I am not afraid of kids, I can sometime be unpredictable, so I would do best in a house without kids, or with kids who visited only occasionally. The person who abused me was a woman, so I am a bit more comfortable with men, especially if they are the ones feeding me! Despite my tough-cat act, I prefer the good life inside with comfy, warm beds, lots of food, and humans all around.
