The Great American Keyboard Cat Competition

This is “Keyboard Cat,” an internet sensation featuring Fatso the cat playing the keyboard with a little assistance from his owner Charlie Schmidt. As a testament to this video’s popularity an eBay listing for a painting of the cat closed recently for over a thousand dollars. One of the bidders, media darling Kevin Pereira (co-host of Attack of the Show on G4 TV — although some members of Kitten Rescue will always remember him as the man sporting too much denim on Arena) refused to accept being outbid in the auction.

To help Kevin furnish his apartment with some much needed internet meme culture, G4 launched the “Great American Keyboard Cat Competition” asking viewers to send in paintings, sculpture, and other renderings of the beloved Fatso. At the gallery showing of the submissions at Meltdown Comics this month, Kevin stated proudly that while he may have lost an auction, he gained a gallery.

Kitten Rescue was contacted by producers of the show who generously offered to donate several of the submissions to be auctioned off to benefit our cause. The gallery runs through August 12th and information about the charity auction will be available shortly thereafter on the Kitten Rescue website.

If you’re in the Los Angeles area the submissions can be viewed at Meltdown Comics. Click here for more information.
